Homage to Catalonia
Plot
In late 1936, George Orwell travels to Spain to report on the Spanish Civil War and ends up joining the militia to fight against Franco's Nationalists. The book chronicles his experiences on the front lines in Catalonia, his time in Barcelona during the factional fighting between Republican groups, and his eventual escape from Spain. It's both a war memoir and a critique of Communist and Soviet influence in the conflict.
